Are you a senior experiencing tooth loss issues? You’re not alone. Tooth loss is quite common among seniors, and a lower quality of life comes with it. Restoring lost teeth with implants can turn your life around. You can regain your smile’s health, functionality, and appearance through implant treatment. A visit to the office of Drs. Goodman & Ko, in Milford, Massachusetts, can determine if you’re a good candidate for implant treatment.
Tooth loss can be disheartening for anyone, even more so for seniors already facing life difficulties. Getting implants can simplify your life as implant teeth are strong, functional, easy to care for, and enduring – everything you could want in a smile! You could be a candidate for implant treatment if you have good oral and overall health and strong jaw health.
Implants are artificial tooth roots that support replacement teeth when natural teeth go missing. They come in the form of titanium or ceramic screws, which are placed in your jaw permanently through implant surgery. Once in place, implants start to fuse with surrounding bone tissue to become a permanent part of your jaw. When they fully heal, Drs. Goodman and Ko will top the implants with connecting abutments and your replacement teeth to complete your smile. Implants give your new teeth the functionality, comfort, and appearance of natural teeth with no inconveniences.
Seniors, in particular, can benefit from implants due to their:
Implant teeth are custom-made to fit naturally and comfortably in your mouth. They look and feel as natural as real teeth due to having artificial tooth roots. Your new teeth will never cause sore gums, painful chewing, or embarrassment by coming loose when you bite or chew.
Unlike removable dentures, implant teeth don’t need messy adhesives for support or soaking to keep them supple and clean. You brush and floss implant teeth like real teeth, making your new smile much easier to care for. Implant teeth have the same stability as real teeth for biting and chewing, which enables you to eat all the foods you love. Eating will be a joy again as there are no dietary restrictions.
Implants contribute to better oral health by preventing bone loss, supporting adjacent teeth to keep them from shifting, and preserving your bite to avoid undue wear and tear on your teeth. With implants, you’ll find it easier to keep your mouth clean, which reduces your risk of getting cavities or developing gum disease.
With good oral care, implants can last 20 to 30 years or with good care even a lifetime for seniors. Porcelain crowns, bridges, and dentures can last over 20 years. With implants, you can look forward to smiling, eating, and laughing confidently for many years.
