If you struggle with sleep apnea or chronic snoring, you may be searching for a comfortable and effective treatment option. Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) are a proven solution for many patients suffering from sleep-related breathing disorders. At David A. Goodman, DMD Alan C. Ko, DMD in Milford, MA, Dr. Alan Ko offers MADs to help improve sleep quality and overall health. Here are the top five benefits of using a Mandibular Advancement Device.
Unlike CPAP machines, which require a mask and air pressure, MADs are simple oral appliances that fit comfortably in your mouth. They gently reposition the lower jaw forward to keep the airway open, reducing snoring and breathing interruptions without the need for bulky equipment. Since they do not require electricity or forced air, many patients find them easier to use and more comfortable than CPAP therapy.
MADs prevent airway collapse during sleep, significantly reducing snoring and sleep apnea episodes. Many patients experience noticeable improvements in their sleep quality and daytime alertness after using the device. By allowing uninterrupted breathing, MADs can help prevent the frequent awakenings that disrupt rest, leading to more restorative sleep and improved cognitive function.
Traveling with a CPAP machine can be inconvenient due to its size, noise, and need for a power source. In contrast, MADs are small, lightweight, and easy to transport. They require no power and can be stored in a small case, making them a hassle-free solution for managing sleep disorders on the go. Whether you’re traveling for work, vacationing, or want a more discreet treatment option, MADs provide flexibility and convenience without compromising effectiveness.
Dr. Alan Ko provides custom-fitted MADs designed to match your mouth structure, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. Unlike generic over-the-counter devices, custom MADs are crafted from high-quality materials and adjusted to fit your specific bite alignment. This reduces the risk of jaw discomfort, gum irritation, and tooth movement with ill-fitting devices. A proper fit enhances comfort and effectiveness, allowing for long-term use without complications.
Untreated sleep apnea can contribute to serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic fatigue. By improving airflow and sleep quality, MADs help enhance overall health, boost energy levels, and reduce the risk of sleep-related complications. Better sleep also leads to improved mood, mental clarity, and reduced daytime drowsiness, making it easier to focus on daily tasks and enjoy life to the fullest.
